Although popular with professional dancers and athletes, Pilates is suitable for all abilities, irrespective of age, gender, body shape or fitness level. As a fully licensed and experienced instructor, I am able to plan sessions to meet very specific needs and medical conditions, whether teaching individuals or groups. However, the objectives and benefits most commonly attributed to Pilates and repeatedly identified by my clients include:
Pilates is a method of exercise devised over a century ago by German-born Joseph Pilates. It was then known as Contrology.
His answer to modern problems was to design a unique series of exercises that helped to correct muscular imbalances and improve posture, coordination, balance, strength and flexibility as well as to increase breathing capacity and organ function.
YOUR TEACHER
Natalie Allen
– Certified Pilates Mat – Polestar Pilates
– Certified Pilates Studio – Polestar Pilates
– Certified – Exercise to Music
– Certified – Multiple Sclerosis Pilates Therapist
I originally trained at The Italia Conti School of Performing Arts in London in the 1980s before launching my career coaching dance, movement and fitness. Over the following years, I came across countless exercise enthusiasts suffering strains, injuries and discomfort. Such issues were prevalent in those of poor posture. I wanted to know how posture and positioning affected the body during exercise and the impact and stress on weak, vulnerable areas could be combated. So I refocused my attention on the anatomy of movement and extended my training at the internationally renowned Polestar Pilates in London. That was 12 years ago and I update my training on a yearly basis to maintain the respected Polestar Instructor Certification. I am fully certified and insured in both Mat and Studio Pilates.
I find teaching Pilates stimulating, challenging and rewarding. My regular client base ranges from those dedicated to sport and dance, to individuals merely wanting to strengthen or tone up. Others include teenagers with growth-related issues, patients with chronic conditions referred by Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, and GPs, and older clients seeking efficient movement strategies to help them perform daily activities with ease. I work with diverse ages from 13 to 93 but am yet to find a client for whom Pilates is inappropriate.

“Natalie has been teaching me pilates for more than 9 years and I feel it benefits me hugely. I run quite a lot and I have noticed that the postures and movements in pilates help with this. I really notice when I don’t do pilates and feel as though I literally grow by the end of the session. Natalie is an amazing teacher who is always bringing new things to the class and has a full understanding of each of her clients individually.”

“I have been attending Natalie’s Pilates classes for several years now. I always enjoy them and come out feeling fitter and stronger both physically and mentally. When I first went to Natalie I had been suffering from a very painful right knee for some time following an injury. I had a few private sessions in Natalie’s home studio which enabled me with Natalie’s help to find what my limit of movement was and which exercises were safe and comfortable for me too. This really gave me back my confidence and I started attending her classes where I gradually made very good progress.
Natalie is very mindful of any pupils’ weaknesses and will adjust exercises accordingly to their ability which is very reassuring. She keeps us well informed of the benefits of the exercises that we are doing and introduces new exercises for us to try which is fun, especially with Natalie.”
Mary Howard
“Pilates taught by an extremely knowledgeable and understanding instructor has enabled me to regain strength, stability, and flexibility after surgery. Natalie created a specific exercise programme for my needs and also provided a ‘homework’ programme with pictures and clear descriptions of each exercise.”

How to get Involved
Group classes are being held on Zoom £9.00 per session and 1:1 studio sessions are being held in person.
I believe that I offer an exceptional level of Pilates and have an excellent reputation in the field. Certainly the demand for my services has been consistent and extensive both previously in London, Sussex and Surrey and now working out of Lyme Regis. To me, maintaining very high standards is paramount, so I continue to work alone and resist the pressures to expand and involve other teachers. This means my time is limited but through discipline and organisation, I am able to fulfil the needs of existing clients and occasionally take on new ones. This usually entails an initial assessment followed by a short programme of 1:1 or 1:2 private sessions in my fully equipped studio in Uplyme prior to entry into any mat-based group classes which are held in Lyme Regis.
